From the unstable and chaos city planning, Cedric Price had brought out the concept of “ Non-plan”. Cedric Price had further seem the experiment of the freedom. The word “ Freedom” had created a tons of possibility that a building worked. The society makes the further unpredictable. As an example, there were three people, what they will do in a day? As the result, they will come out with an unplanned and irregular movement activities. This was an idea came from, “Non-plan”.
From his vision, he had saw and experienced some planning and scheduled had lost its spirit and become ineffective. Planning strategies became worse than without any planning applied. The result was not wonderful as planning and this leads to the failing of entire process. All those uniformly planning become industrialization. In the word of “industrialization”, it doesn’t appear in the design field. It would only appear in the engineer’s dictionary. It cause continuously reformatting, repeating arrangement and rebooting itself consistency. Challenge was to plan instead of reuse of planning. Every planning would come with knowledge, an unorganized knowledge cannot possibly be called as scientific.
Besides, as Cedric Price thinking of “ Non-plan” was a fully of passion and curious for planning an “unknown” instead of planning uniformly and safety. the outcome will also different from the typical planning. But the typical housing area wouldn’t totally used as non-plan design and construction. This normally would take more time consuming and costly for further development, especially in the lower-income housing area. They couldn’t afford a lot of spending for their housing. So, the installation of the building services will be applied basically, which has sewerage system, water supply system and electric circuit. The maintenance and installation cost would be saved quite lot.
The major premise behind Non-Plan was when ‘professionals’ were designing communities they should think before telling other people how they should live because everyone had their own preferences and ideas. Non-plan brings us a brand new ways of exploration of people living with an fully designed environments that giving people a form of their comfortable for working and living. Multiple ideas and technical supporting bring a non-plan of formation to build a building that coming out with creative and innovative housing.
Last but not least, non-plan gives a great impact to the architecture’s history or for the future. Cedric Price’s thought lead to another way of viewing perspective of architecture building that make people for enjoying their activities in whenever they want.
